I’ve been in a dream slump.
I can see your raised eyebrows and shocked expressions. How can a lifelong dreamer, guide, and teacher be in a slump?
Being an avid journaler, I reflected on this. Here’s what I found.
Dream Journaling takes time to record your dreams, go through The Lightning Dream Process, and take action.
When I do this on a regular basis, I feel, see, and know the difference in my life. I listen to my dream messages and take note of the synchronicities and guidance for my waking life. I understand my purpose and what matters.
I slow down.
Since June, I’ve recorded dreams on my phone most mornings but have not honored them the way I do in my waking life by journaling and reflection.
It’s a practice AND a lifestyle. Just as much as eating well and exercising are part of my daily practice, dreaming has been as well.
So what happened?
Life
Summer
Planning a wedding
Family caregiving
Motorcycle rides
I mourn the fact that I may have missed key messages and creative ideas by letting dreams slip away and not listening to these sacred messages.
But I also give myself grace knowing that perhaps I dream in seasons. Some are more detailed than others.
There’s an ebb and flow to my dreams.
Now they call to me.
So here’s how I’m getting Back to My Dreams and what sparked the reconnection.

Chased by Coyote

I see a coyote at the edge of an unfamiliar forest. A house I live in–possibly The Greenville House of Truth. I run into the forest as I’m too far from home. I search for a tree to climb. I hear the coyote behind me.
Suddenly, Zoey, my half Akita/half Black Lab rescue dog sprints after the coyote, protecting me. I call Luke on my phone and tell him I’m being chased by a coyote. I run again and am now in the front yard of The Greenville House of Truth. There’s a 70’s red Chevrolet car on the lawn.
I turn and the coyote jumps over the roof of the car with its mouth open. I raise my right arm to protect myself.
Feelings:
Scared
Shaken
Protected
Reality:
The Greenville House of Truth reminds me to pay attention to the truth of the message.
Four days earlier my sister sent me photos of a coyote in her backyard. Her Great Dane and German Shepherd chased it back into the woods. I could have been bringing that memory into my dreams, but this felt personal.
I usually can’t use my phone properly in a dream, when I try to call my husband. This time I could.
Zoey is now my spirit dog as she died two years ago.
The car reminds me of the classic cars we just saw at The Adirondack National Car Show in Lake George.
Curiosity:
What is coyote trying to tell me?
Why is it chasing me?
How does this dream relate to my waking life?
What does the Blood Moon Represent?
Messages:
A clear message is that Zoey is a spirit guide. A protectress in my dream realm. I can call on her when I need reassurance or to watch my back.
When I went through The Lightning Dream Process, I asked my sister for support since the coyote was in her waking life. We did a Google search to see what resonated. She connected coyote with adaptability and intuition for me.
Was I running away from my intuition?
This summer I haven’t been honoring my dreams as I normally would. My dreams inform my intuition, and I have been feeling off in that area. Perhaps coyote was chasing me back to the entrance of The Greenville House. My Truth, the navigator of my intuition.
In addition to caring for my body in the midst of my 6-month Back to Life as I call it, I’m cognizant of taking care of my emotional health writing my memoir: Letters to My Son: From Loss to Hope.
This may be a reminder to reconnect with my spirit animal, Moose, who is my Oversoul guide–known to adapt to different and complex circumstances.
Action:
Develop dream relationship with Zoey.
Go through my dreams over the summer and at least record them in my Notability file for future reference.
Dreams matter to me–bring Dream Journaling back into my daily schedule.
Keep my phone with me and know my husband has my back.
Drum with Dream Circles at in-person gatherings to deepen our truths and how to receive them in our dreams.
Explore idea of coyote as a spirit animal or totem.
Bumper Sticker/Affirmation:
As I follow my intuition, I adapt to swerves and roadblocks, confident of my path.
Whether we remember them or not, we all dream.
Dreams provide messages.
They remind us of what matters.
Dreams are fantastic adventures.
They balance our waking lives and guide us.

“This may be a reminder to reconnect with my spirit animal, Moose, who is my Oversoul guide–known to adapt to different and complex circumstances.”
This passage really hit a nerve with me. A couple of years ago I was running on the Mohawk -Hudson bike trail in a wooded area just north of the water treatment plant with two friends. We got caught in a bad thunder& lightning storm and the rain was coming down in buckets. You could barely see in front of you. We were running down the center of the trail and all of a sudden I see this giant male Moose cross in front of us from left to right while the lighting is flashing. It was so close I yelled out to my friends to watch out as I thought we would crash into it. Only problem was they didn’t see anything although they were literally running right next to me. It was surreal. Since then I always leave an offering at that spot if I’m on that part of the trail to say thank you for the vision.
Thank you for sharing this dream and your incredible analysis of it! When you weren’t paying as much attention to your dreams you were focusing on life with motorcycling, a wedding, and summer! Now you can return to a balance of dreams and life. For my dreams I want to get back to appearances from my daughter Alix. She gives me signs but I haven’t had any dreams of her in a while.
